Unlike many competitors who sell technical-grade lye, Essential Depot's sodium hydroxide is Food Grade, proudly made in the U.S.A., and lower in impurities. This lye is FOOD GRADE, USP, non-GMO, Kosher, and Halal acceptable. It does not contribute to BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) and has not been animal tested since 1990.

The chlorine used in manufacturing this lye does not come into contact with any animal products or byproducts, nor does it contain chemical additives that are organic in nature. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Certificates of Analysis (COA) are available upon request.

All products are shipped in easy-to-store, easy-to-use, resealable BPA-free HDPE containers with child-resistant caps. Each container holds 5 oz net weight of lye. This shipment is classified as an ORM-D Consumer Commodity.

Essential Depot's lye is particularly well-suited for applications like making pretzels, bagels, soda bread, olives, lutefisk, hominy, and cleaning wine/beer tanks, beer lines, and more. Caution is advised when using drain openers from other suppliers, as they often contain additional harmful chemicals, unlike Essential Depot's pure sodium hydroxide.
